AdvocatesA Clear and Compelling Education Reform Movement
The Core Knowledge Foundation is dedicated to finding ways to realize the goal reflected in our motto–educational excellence and equity for all children. Our initiatives include the researched-based Core Knowledge Sequence, the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence, the innovative Core Knowledge Language Arts program, and an expanding network of high-performing schools—and a growing array of materials and professional development to support them.
The Foundation supports the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Adopted by nearly every state in the U.S., the Common Core English Language Arts standards note that “building knowledge systematically in English language arts is like giving children various pieces of a puzzle in each grade that, over time, will form one big picture.” The standards emphasize how important it is for students to read texts across disciplines and build a foundation of knowledge that will give them the background to be better readers in all content areas. “Students can only gain this foundation when the curriculum is intentionally and coherently structured to develop rich content knowledge within and across grades,” note the authors of the standards. While standards are not a curriculum, the Common Core State Standards echo and support the work of the Core Knowledge Foundation for the last 25 years.
