How well are your students learning the Core Knowledge Sequence?

The Core Knowledge Sequence clearly defines the specific knowledge students need in order to make steady progress from one grade to the next, as well as to become culturally literate citizens. But how do you assess how well your students are learning and retaining the material they are taught?

In the past, teachers of the Core Knowledge Sequence have had to create their own tests. Now, however, we are pleased to be able to offer Core Knowledge Curriculum-Referenced Tests for grades 1 through 5.

Why Core Knowledge Tests?

Most state or district mandated assessments are tests of general knowledge or achievement. Useful, but not directly related to the subject matter outlined in the Core Knowledge Sequence.

Increasingly, teachers at Core Knowledge schools have requested comprehensive tests that reflect the specific curriculum they teach. Therefore, the Core Knowledge Foundation has developed Core Knowledge Curriculum-Referenced Tests. The tests, published by Questar Assessment, are available for grades 1 through 5. These tests are currently in use in more than 50 Core Knowledge schools around the country.

The perfect end-of-year exams

Core Knowledge Curriculum-Referenced Tests include questions from the following subject areas in the Sequence:

  • math
  • language arts
  • history & geography
  • science

The tests are not timed, so that students who are slower readers or work at a slower pace are not penalized.

Student's performance on these tests, given at the end of the year, will indicate the progress they've made in each content area, and ensure that they enter the next grade ready to learn more.

Easy to administer. Scoring is provided.

Complete Test Administration Procedures lead the examiner step by step through the testing process. Students in grades 1 and 2 mark their answers directly in the test booklets. Students in grade 3, 4, and 5 mark their answers on separate answer sheets. Scoring, provided by Questar Assessment Scoring Services, is prompt and reliable, with score reports available in three weeks or less.

An affordable solution to your assessment needs

Core Knowledge Curriculum-Referenced Test booklets and answer sheets are packaged in bundles of 25 each. (Extra packages of 5 are available to accommodate larger class sizes.)  Test administration procedures are included with each package.
