Day-by-Day Planner Upgrade
There is more room and more versatility in the new Day-by-Day Planner. Teachers who have already installed the previous versions are encouraged to run the free upgrade, which will take the data already entered into the planner and transfer it to the new one.
- Daily, weekly, and year-long views are linked. Changes in the daily view will automatically appear in the weekly and year-long views.
- More room to include standards for EVERY content area, not just in the “Other” boxes
- Unlimited cells so that teachers can enter more data for each day
- Subject area printouts for each subject, to accommodate more detailed daily plans
- Links to Concept Objectives from the daily plans
- Row headers can be customized, enabling teachers to include additional programs in the planner
Directions for downloading and installing the free upgrade
Please read these directions and Frequently Asked Questions completely before downloading the updater. You must have version 1.0 or 1.1 of the Day-by-Day Planner already installed on your computer.
- Please back up your database before running the installer. You can do this by making a copy of the CKS_Grade[x].mdb file.
- Select the appropriate file from the download list.
- Choose to save the file to your computer.
- When the file has finished downloading, double-click on it to run it.
- Click the button labeled "Install Day Planner Upgrade."
- When it finishes, quit the upgrade.
- Open the Day-by-Day Planner on your computer.
- Click the button labeled "Continue Upgrade"
- When it is complete, click "OK" to continue.

Select the download file which is appropriate to the Grade Level and Installation program of your version of the Day-by-Day Planner.

Version 1.1 of the installer program created a directory named Core Knowledge in the Program Files directory. Inside that folder is a folder named Day-by-Day Planner. Frequently Asked Questions
- How can I tell what version I have?
- I did not use the default directory when originally installing the Day-by-Day Planner application. When I tried to run the upgrade, I received an error message and the installation failed. What can I do?
- I downloaded the upgrade file but when I tried to open it, I got a security message which stated: "Security error on execution of update file".
- The desktop and start menu icon for version 1.0 was a Microsoft Access icon, which looks like a purple key. Version 1.1 has a purple or blue paperdoll icon. All grades 6–8 are version 1.1.
- You must create the directory manually for the installation to be successful. The directories you need to create are different depending on the installation version used when origianlly installing the Day-by-Day Planner.
- If you have version 1.0:
In My Computer, open C:\Program Files. Create a directory named CKS_GradeX with 'X' representing the Grade level. For example, the file path you would create if you were installing Grade Level 2 would be: Program Files/CKS_Grade 2/
Move the database file into this folder. When the database file is in the expected location, the upgrade application should work properly. After the upgrade, move the database file back to its install location. - If you have version 1.1:
In My Computer, open C:\Program Files. Create a directory named Core Knowledge inside the Program Files directory. Inside the Core Knowledge directory, create a directory named Day-by-Day Planner. Inside Day-by-Day Planner directory create a directory named GradeX with 'X' representing the Grade level. For example, the file path you would create if you were installing Grade Level 2 would be:

The folder names must be exact. - Move the database file into the GradeX folder. When the database file is in that location, the upgrade application should work properly. After the upgrade, move the database file back to its install location.
- Right-click on the file icon and select Properties. Click on the "General" tab. Deselect the "locked" attribute. Close all dialog boxes. The file should now open.
