The Core Knowledge Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks mid-level staff for both full-time and part-time positions (minimum 15 hours/week) to be part of a team that is developing a comprehensive, new reading program for grades K-2.  Multiple positions requiring different competencies and experience available.

Staff hired for the Skills Strand (decoding) of the program will assist with development of phonics materials. Responsibilities may include writing and editing lessons, decodable stories, and worksheets; proofreading; photo research. Qualified candidates will have a college degree, graduate study desirable, with specialization in reading, learning disabilities, or linguistics; elementary grade level teaching experience and strong writing skills. Knowledge and/or experience using phonics programs, such as Orton-Gillingham,  Open Court, etc. a plus.

Staff hired for the Listening and Learning Strand (oral comprehension) of the program will assist with the development of oral read-alouds and related activities. Responsibilities may include writing and editing both fiction and nonfiction read-alouds and instructional activities, proofreading; photo research. Qualified candidates will have  a college degree, graduate study desirable, with specialization in reading, speech and language, early childhood or learning disabilities; elementary grade level teaching experience and strong writing skills. Knowledge and/or experience with dialogic reading and similar methods a plus.
