Dear Core Knowledge Educator,
It is with deep regret that I must inform you that the 2009 Core Knowledge Conference has been cancelled.
While I'm sure you share our disappointment in this news, it has become clear that in this year of economic hardship and tight school budgets, funds for travel and conferences are in desperately short supply this year. As the scheduled date of the conference drew closer, it became clear that the anticipated attendance for this year's conference was not to the level where we could assure attendees of the first-rate conference experience they have come to expect from us -- in the range and breadth of sessions, the number of exhibitors, and the opportunity to network with fellow educators.
We are deeply disappointed that such a drastic step needed to be taken. However, I am pleased to report that our next conference has been scheduled at the Renaissance Sea World in Orlando, Florida in November, 2011. It is our hope that both the economy and school budgets will have sufficiently recovered by that time to allow us to put on the kind of conference teachers and others have come to expect of Core Knowledge.
Please accept our deepest apologies for this obvious inconvenience. If you have already registered for the conference, you will be contacted personally by the Core Knowledge Foundation to arrange for a refund. Room reservations made at the Renaissance Sea World in Orlando are completely refundable as well. The hotel is automatically cancelling all conference related reservations, so your credit card will not be charged.
I do want to let you know that the hotel is extending to Core Knowledge registrants a special "Teacher Getaway" rate of $119.00 per night during the originally scheduled conference dates, if you decide to still visit Orlando. If you wish to reinstate your reservation at this lowered rate, you can visit the Renaissance SeaWorld Hotel.
