Core Knowledge Schools Shine in Recent Study
"There is a significant difference between Core Knowledge schools and their counterparts in the national school system," commented Dr. John Wedman of the University of Missouri on the study that he and his colleague, Dr. Alex Waigandt, recently completed. … Based on their findings, Wedman and Waigandt concluded that “there appears to be a strong relationship between student performance and the Core Knowledge curriculum.”

An "Aha!" Moment in Atlanta

What new could I possibly learn? This was my somewhat skeptical attitude as I made my way to the Core Knowledge Conference in Atlanta last March. After all, I had been immersed for five years in the Core Knowledge Curriculum, two of them as Lead Teacher for my Georgia school of over 400 students. Few things about the curriculum had been left unexplored… or so I thought.

Meet Bob Shepherd, New Director of Educational Materials
Robert D. Shepherd recently joined the staff of the Core Knowledge Foundation as Director of Educational Materials, the department in charge of most publications at the Foundation. He brings a wealth of experience to the position — experience in publishing, editing, management, marketing, and writing. Saving Caney Creek

Last year Yolanda Van Ness, Core Knowledge Grants Coordinator, alerted us to a story developing in a small Core Knowledge school in a remote corner of Kentucky. She was so impressed by the enthusiasm and hard work evident in this little school that we decided to ask the Core Knowledge Coordinator at Caney Creek to write up the story of how and why they came to adopt Core Knowledge. This report was sent in by kindergarten teacher Angela Jacobs.
