David S. Swanson Appointed to
Core Knowledge Board

The Core Knowledge Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of David S. Swanson, of Damariscotta, Maine, to its Board of Trustees. Mr. Swanson enjoyed a long and distinguished career with the Procter & Gamble Company, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his tenure at Procter & Gamble, Mr. Swanson served in various locations in positions related to chemical engineering, plant management, and marketing. During the 1980's, as general manager for one of Procter & Gamble's six U. S. businesses, his full responsibilities included financial oversight, as well as research and development, sales, advertising, market research, strategic planning, and public relations. Capping his successful career at Procter & Gamble, Mr. Swanson served as Senior Vice President for Manufacturing, Engineering, and Purchasing and as a member of the Board of Directors.

Both during his Procter & Gamble years and since his retirement, Mr. Swanson has been extremely active in community affairs, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Berea College and as a member of many other non-profit boards, including those of Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Maine.

Mr. Swanson is a graduate of Yale University. As the father of four children and as a trustee of Berea College for twenty years, he has shown long-standing interest in education issues. The Core Knowledge Foundation looks forward to reaping the benefits of his lifelong commitment to sound management and his enlightened approach to building community.
