Host a Preschool Training Module

(and reduce your costs!)

Where: A location in your area, such as a meeting room at your school, hotel meeting room, civic center, etc.

When you host a training, you get two free registrations for your own staff members plus one additional free registration for every additional five paid registrations. We will promote the training in your area to help secure additional participants, beyond your own staff members, to help you meet the minimum number of participants required.

What does it mean to "host" a training workshop?"

When you host a workshop, you provide the training facilities and logistics, and we provide the training and registration.

• Room  You arrange for the room where training will be conducted. Good locations are civic centers, hotels and other public meeting places. You might even have a large enough room at your site. The room must accommodate 50 participants. The best room arrangement allows for three to four tables at the front for display, and separate tables with up to six participants to a table, if possible.
• Snacks  You arrange for refreshments, such as fruit or cookies and a beverage, to be served during the mid-morning break and afternoon break. Some sites like to provide coffee and/or other beverages as participants arrive. Each participant is typically "on his/her own" for lunch, though it is helpful if you provide a list of suggested restaurants.
• Audio/Visual Setup  You ensure that necessary audio/visual equipment is provided. In most cases, this is a television monitor, VCR, cassette tape/CD player, and overhead projector. All of our training is also available as a Power Point slide show, in which case we will need an LCD projector. 
• Lodging for out-of-town participants  You provide suggestions of two or three hotels where participants can stay. When scheduling the dates, check your area for other local events, such as football games or other major events, which might limit room availability.  

How do people find out about the workshop?

The Core Knowledge Foundation will promote the workshop in your area by sending out informational materials regarding the workshop to preschools within a 50+ mile radius, (determined by your location). In addition, we will provide you electronically with a poster for you to print and distribute in your area. We suggest you contact local radio stations, educational boards, etc. to also post announcements.  

Where do participants pay their fees?

Registration is handled through the Core Knowledge Foundation, thereby eliminating any paperwork on your end.  Participants may register by fax, or by mail.  Participants are considered fully registered when full payment has been made. 

Who provides the training materials?

Core Knowledge will provide sufficient training materials and handouts for all participants as part of the fee that each individual pays at the time of registration. In addition, we will send you nametags and a list of paid participants for you to check off at the training and return to us. We will follow up with the participants, sending each one a certificate of participation after the training.  

Besides arranging for the room, AV equipment, and light refreshments, what else will I need to do as the host?

• Take receipt of and store the training materials shipped by Core Knowledge prior to the training.
• Set up the room with adequate seating and verify that all AV equipment is in working order the day before the training.
• Greet participants, verify their attendance, and distribute handouts during the training.
• Distribute and collect training evaluation forms at the end of training.
• Return attendance sheets, evaluations, and all non-consumable materials to Core Knowledge within 5 days of the training.  

What if I don't get a minimum of 30 registrations by the deadline?

On a regular basis, we will keep you notified regarding registration numbers. If we have not received the minimum of 30 registrations two weeks before the deadline, you have several options.  

• Option A: Cancellation. If you choose to cancel the workshop, there is a $1,500 cancellation fee. All fees will be refunded to registrants.
• Option B: On-site training. You may choose to drop the "hosting" option and schedule instead the "on-site" training option for your own staff. The fees for a 2-day training are $2,750 plus a materials fee per participant ($45 for Getting Started; $30 for all other trainings), plus a $350 hosting cancellation fee. We will refund registration fees to other registrants who are not members of your staff and let them know your school will be unable to host the training.  

What if more than 50 people want to register?

An ideal training will have no more than 50 participants. Large trainings limit group interaction. Registration will be offered on a first come, first served basis. If interest exceeds 50, you may want to consider hosting an additional workshop at a different time.  

What is the benefit of hosting a workshop?

For schools with budgetary restraints, hosting a workshop is an ideal way to train your own staff in an affordable manner while offsetting your costs.  Additionally, it allows you to meet other like-minded educators in your region, offering the opportunity for future collaboration. It gives your preschool a reputation as a leader in your community.  

When you host a workshop, you will automatically receive two free registrations for your teachers. For every five paid registrations, you will earn an additional free registration for your school. With the maximum attendance at 50 registrants, you can earn up to 10 free registrations. 

I'm interested in hosting a preschool training in my area. What's next?  

1. Talk to your director/administrators and determine if hosting a workshop is an option for you.
2. Contact the Core Knowledge Foundation and talk to Julian Molitz 434-220-3352 about your interest. He will consult with you about logistics — what kind of option would work best for your school.
3. Complete a Hosting Workshop Request Form and fax it to 434-977-0021, Attention: Julian Molitz.
4. When we have talked to you and have received your Request Form, we will send a Contract for you to sign.
5. A signed Contract places your training on the calendar and activates your request. We will begin taking steps to advertise the workshop in your area. Your training will be posted on our current training section of the website.
